Kenya.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)

Most travellers to Kenya (except citizens of EAC Partner States, Burundi, DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, and a number of exempt nationalities, see below) must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) online prior to departure.

Apply at: www.etakenya.go.ke
Applications can be submitted from 90 days up to 3 days before travel; we recommend applying as soon as flights and accommodation are booked, and at least 2 weeks ahead where possible.
Standard processing takes around 3 business days (72 hours). An expedited/urgent service is available for an additional fee.
Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date and have at least one blank page.
An eTA is required for travellers of all ages, including infants. Each traveller needs a separate application.

eTA Fees

• Standard processing: from US $30 per person
• Expedited/urgent processing: standard fee plus an additional US $100
• Fees are non-refundable and subject to change

Who is exempt from applying for an eTA? Kenya significantly expanded its exemption list in 2025. Citizens of the EAC Partner States (Burundi, DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda) may now enter without an eTA for stays of up to 180 days. Nationals of a long list of other countries, including South Africa, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia and many Caribbean and Pacific nations, are also exempt for stays of 60 - 90 days depending on nationality. Travellers holding a valid Kenya re-entry pass, work permit or permanent residence are also exempt, as are same-aircraft transit passengers who do not leave the airport precincts. Given how frequently this list changes, please check your specific nationality at www.etakenya.go.ke/general-information or ask your Experience Designer.

Re-entry into Kenya Travellers arriving in Kenya whose itineraries include a visit to an EAC country followed by re-entry into Kenya can use their original eTA for re-entry.

Mandatory Travel Health Insurance

As of August 2026, Kenya requires all non-Kenyan visitors staying less than 12 months to hold travel health insurance with a minimum cumulative cover of US $50,000. Travellers with existing comprehensive travel insurance from home do not need to buy a separate Kenyan policy, provided it meets these minimums. Proof of insurance is expected to be required as part of the eTA application. Full details are in the copy block below. Please make sure every guest travelling to Kenya has compliant cover in place before departure.

If you require an entry visa for Tanzania, this can be obtained:

• Online prior to departure at https://visa.immigration.go.tz/ (recommended)
• From a Tanzanian Diplomatic Mission in your country of residence
• At major airports and select border posts (including Namanga and Migori/Tarime). Note that visa-on-arrival policy has tightened recently, so we strongly recommend applying online in advance rather than relying on arrival issuance

• Ordinary or Single Journey entry visa US $ 50 per person (although this is a single entry visa, it can remain valid for re-entry from Kenya)
• USA & Irish nationals only: Ordinary or Single Journey entry visa US $ 100 per person
• Multiple entry visas US $ 100 per person
• Please note the East Africa Community Tourist Visa is not applicable to Tanzania
• Nationals of certain countries require a referred visa for entry into Tanzania. These are required to be applied for and approved before travel. Please see the full list of countries here http://www.tanzaniaconsul.com/visa.html

All passengers travelling between the two parks using either the Tarime - Migori or Kisumu-Musoma connection are required to carry with them a printed copy of their visas.

Zanzibar Mandatory Travel Insurance Application Guide

All travellers (except Tanzania residents) arriving in Zanzibar from 1st October 2024 are required to apply for Zanzibar Travel Insurance online prior to departure via https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/

Visa for Rwanda

Citizens of all countries will be granted a visa upon arrival without prior application. Citizens of African Union, Commonwealth, and La Francophonie countries will be granted a 30-day visa upon arrival without prior application, free of charge. Citizens of East African Community countries will be granted a 6-month visa upon arrival without prior application, free of charge. Citizens of the following countries will be granted a 90-day visa upon arrival without prior application, free of charge: Angola, Benin, CAR, Chad, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Mauritius, Philippines, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Seychelles, Singapore, Qatar & Saint Christopher and Nevis. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date and must have a clean and full visa page for endorsement.

Citizens of all countries are able to:
Get visas upon arrival without prior application
Apply for a visa online via https://irembo.gov.rw/user/citizen/service/dgie/request_a_visa - paying online or upon arrival
Apply for a visa at the Rwanda Diplomatic Missions of the country of residence before departure

If paying for a visa on arrival, please have this amount in exact cash for ease of transaction. 

• Transit visa US $ 30 per person
• Tourist visa US $ 50 per person
• Tourist Group visa (4 to 10 people) US $ 100
• Multiple entry visas US $ 100 per person

Visa for Uganda

Uganda now processes visas almost exclusively online in advance. Visa-on-arrival is no longer a reliable fallback, so please apply well before travel: https://visas.immigration.go.ug/

Visas are valid for a period not exceeding 3 months. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date, with at least one (ideally two) blank pages for the entry stamp.

Visa Fees

• Ordinary/Single Journey entry visa: US $50 per person
• East Africa Tourist Visa (Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, 90 days, multiple entry): US $100 per person

A number of nationalities (including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and a range of other African, Caribbean and Pacific states) are exempt from a Uganda visa for stays of up to 90 days.

A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required at the port of entry, regardless of visa status.
